The Rusty Rail, Glencoe Siding
Railway carriage living near Mount Gambier, South Australia
The block is shaped like a japanese chopper and follows the layout of the old shunting yards, complete with turntable pit, beside the yellow wattle.
The cottage/studio. Where I work and relax. Sleeping is done in a sleeping van.
The sleeping vans are connected by the original 'concertina' walk-thru. Both vans are self-contained with kitchenette, shower and separate toilet.
One of the old SA Employee Sleeping Vans is still done out with bunkhouse accommodation, plus kitchenette, toilet and shower.
With stove, sink, cupboards and generous hot water supply, the sleeping vans are better equipped than many motel rooms.
The narrow gauge train rode on a third rail inside the standard track. It was only used once a week, so it became the Rusty Rail, between the shiny regular tracks.
These bogies are disappearing into the foliage. I would love to use them as gate posts.
Carted goods to Glencoe from 1907 to 1957.
