Historic Site, 7600 square metres

The Glencoe Siding was opened in 1907 to carry potatoes, dairy products, timber and passengers between Glencoe West and Mount Gambier.

Its dedicated line branched off at Wandilo, using a narrow gauge. Only used once a week, the line never got fully cleaned by train wheels, leading to the nickname 'The Rusty Rail' which became the name of the property.

Remnants of the shunting yard still exist in the split level grounds, the railway cutting in which sit the two sleeping vans, and in the turntable pit where locomotives used to be spun for their return journey.

The line closed in 1957, unable to compete with modern roads and trucking services.

Looking east on Kirip Road, between the wars.  The site of The Rusty Rail is about where the smoke from the locomotive can be seen.
